PORT LOUIS, Mauritius, Capital Markets in Africa — On Wednesday, the Stock Exchange of Mauritius equity bounced back to positive trading, so indices and shareholder values appreciated. The equity market capitalization closed at MUR 209.568 billion after adding MUR 526 million (about US$15 million) compared to previous market capitalization of MUR 209.042 billion.
In the same positive mood, the Mauritius All Share Index (SEMDEX index) rose by 0.25 percent or 4.73 points to close at 1881.88 and SEM10 index advanced by 0.42 percent or 1.50 points to end at 361.04 points.
In respect of the market activity, the overall total volume trade ended at 730,576 (a fall relative to a volume of 7,275,925 recorded on the previous trading session) and the total valued traded was recorded at MUR 34.300 million (a decrease relative to MUR 32.270 million recorded at the previous trading session).
The most active traded securities by volume were Rogers & Co Limited recorded 301,200 (about 41.23 percent of total volume) at MUR 8.731 million and LUX Island Resorts Limited registered 148,990 traded stocks amounted to MUR 8.674 million. MCB Group had 59,999 at MUR 12.620 million and SMB Holdings recorded a total volume of 58,100 shares at MUR 45,979. Mauritius Oil Refineries Limited also recorded 40,100 shares at MUR 1.023 million.
From the market sentiment/breath viewpoints, among the 24 traded securities there were 8 price gainers and 2 price losers, hence the market sentiment ended in positive. National Investment Trust Mauritius surged by 2.24 percent to end at MUR 41.00, Rogers & Co Limited advanced by 1.75 percent to end at MUR 29.00 and TERRA Limited added 1.72 percent to close at MUR 29.50. ENL Land Limited closed at MUR 47.50 after gaining 1.06 percent and CIEL Limited accelerated by 0.90 percent to close at MUR 6.76.
On the contrary, United Basalt Products dropped 4.22 percent to settle at MUR 73.75 and Mauritius Oil & Refinery Limited faltered by 1.92 percent to end at MUR 25.50.
The DEMEX index closed at 200.22 points by adding 0.01 points or 0.02 percent. The market capitalization closed at MUR 49.229 billion after gaining MUR 4 million (relatively to MUR 49.225 billion recorded at the previous trading session). The total value traded was MUR 2.547 million exchanged in 69,018 traded securities.
